They can also be bought as a syndicate, for €200, four people pay €50 each and they as in with a chance to win €5,000 each in return. BOARD A BUS - HOP ON AND HELP OUT: See Dublin and Kilkenny at your leisure and help raise money for Barretstown at the same time. Make a difference to the lives of children with cancer and other serious illnesses. Hop on a City Sightseeing Bus in Dublin or Kilkenny on Thursday July 10th and all of your ticket money will go to help bring children to Barretstown. In 2007 over 1,500 children and their family members benefited from our life changing programme. We need your support to be able to give more children and their families the opportunity to experience the magic of Barretstown. We cannot achieve this without your valued support and help.

STREET CHILDREN: Kay Sheppard and her daughter Mary are going to work with street children and orphans in a summer camp in Romania from July 2nd to July 13th. They are looking for our help in raising much needed money to fund this worthy cause and have sponsorship cards and raffle prizes in many shops in the town. Please give generously to this very worthy cause.

WELCOME HOME WEEK: During the Welcome Home Festival you can also look forward to the Rogues & Vagabonds Barbeque on Friday 1st August, a Vintage Parade on Sunday 3rd August and also a Teddy Bear Picnic on Monday 4th August. GREAT INTEREST IN LOCAL RESTORATION PROJECT: Local students and neighbours of Knockanoran and Bishops Wood visited Coillte’s wet woodland on the banks of the Erkina River the last Friday in May, which was a glorious day in a very special place. At this time of year, there is lots to see in the woodland, king cups, damsel flies, frogs, water loving plants and grasses, and a range of healthy regeneration of native tree seedlings such as oak, birch, elm, rowan – even a yew tree was spotted in the near distance by some members of the group. The Durrow National School children are very knowledgeable and aware of local biodiversity and all listened to hear the birdsong of blackbird and willow warbler along the riverbank. The inspiration and enthusiasm for learning about the environment is very infectious in the Green School and lots of the students expressed keen interest in being active members of the Green School Committee in the coming years. The 4th, 5th and 6th classes visited the woodland in the morning and Coillte project manager led a group of locals in the afternoon on a walk around the wood to see restoration work that is underway. There is a diverse shrub and field layer in the woodland and the group saw the rare purging buckthorn plant which is the main food source for the yellow Brimstone butterfly which was very active on that hot afternoon. The site is in a Special Area of Conservation and the habitat forms part of Coillte’s nature conservation project which will put in place conditions that will allow priority woodland to regenerate into the future. The 95 hectare woodland restoration site, one of nine sites across the country, is part of a project jointly funded by Coillte and the EU DG-Environment under the Nature programme. If you walk through the woodland you will notice the new information signs that tell a great story about the rare habitat, with pictures of what you will find during your visit. It is a beautiful ancient woodland on the doorstep and is a considerable component of the meagre 0.1% of alluvial woodland that has survived in the country today. Further information of the priority woodland at Durrow: www.woodlandrestoration.ie online which also has pictures.

Thoughts for the Day - Your Job In Life Whatever you do, do the best that you can, and do it with joy and good cheer. For each individual God has a plan. A mission, a job to do here. So find out the purpose intended for you, that nobody else could fulfill, and bend every effort, that aim to pursue, with all of your heart and you will. All other paths are but byways that lead to failulre, frustration, unrest. Find your own niche if you want to succeed and richly your work will be blessed.
