Peter, You probably know more about me than I know about you. You and I are cousins. You first met me in your Aunt Margie's kitchen in 1995. It was a beautiful day that day. I remember the view of the far side of the ballagh Margie has from her kitchen window. Your Gran (God rest her) was staying with Margie at the time. Aunt Nellie said to me, "So I hear you've been off to Limerick chasin' women!" Ha Ha! You should remember me as I had hair down to the middle of my back in those days. I've since wised up a bit... or merely conceded to male pattern baldness. My father is Sean Kenna. I know you were there (Chicago) visiting not too long ago. Sorry I missed you. I'm in a line of work where I travel all over the States. I've worked in 39 of them so far, but Arizona is not one of them (yet). However, if my travels are to take me there, you will be the first to know. How does a man from Durrow wind up in Phoenix? All the best! |

Peter, I'll be willing to bet your dad is Dickie. Your granny was Nellie (God Rest her... and Richie McGree!). You also have an English cousin named Dave Ryan. Your Aunt is Margie. I made a habit when your grandparents were alive to visit them right away when I arrived in the town. And I always called in before I left for the States. I'm also in the habit of having at least one jar with your dad and his sidekick, Albert, whenever I can! Here's hoping the boys are still in good form! |

Those in the States with Durrow roots were saddened to learn of the passing of one of the great characters of Durrow from one of the greatest families of Durrow. May the Good Lord rest in peace the soul of Toucher Cashin. Toucher never missed a match. My first encounter with Toucher was in 1989. I had the occasion to call on another Durrow legend, Mr. Richard O'Rourke. Richie lived with his sister back then (RIP to them both!). The O'Rourkes typically took some time to respond to callers at the door and after awhile I began to wonder if they were at home. Toucher happened to be passing by and I said, "Excuse me, but would these folks be at home?" Toucher said, "Just keep knockin', they're queer!" My visit with the O'Rourkes began shortly thereafter... |
