I've been reading through the threads and noticed a few mentions of the Guilfoyles. My Father was John Guilfoyle (sadly died in March 2005) son of Ambrose and Julia. Dad moved to the UK in 1949. I have met Betty, Peggy, Teesie, Billy, Amby and of course Ned. We grew up in South London and saw a lot of Ned,his wife Ivy and my cousins Brendan, Paul, Billy and Gerard. My Brother John lives in Kerry near Tralee, which is where my Mother Joan is from. My Mum,other brothers Kevin & Stephen and I all live in the UK. It would be nice to hear back from any of the Durrow Guilfoyles or anybody that knew my Dad. My e-mail address is guilf@btinternet.com |

Hi. I'm Mary Pat (nee Stringer). I used to live in St Fintan's Terrace and went to the Convent. My parents were James & Gerturde Stringer. I left Durrow in about 1961 age 13, now live in Manchester. I'm visiting Durrow next week, hopefully Fri 29th August. Hoping to meet up with Mary Phelan/Walsh. Would love to get in contact with other Stringer relatives.

I think it is very unfair to say that the Tidy Towns Committee should not have entered, after paying for a ticket like many other people, clubs and syndicates they had just a right to win.I think it is wonderfull news that the money will be going back into the town.Everyone entered had an equal opportunity to win.Congratulations to Durrow Tidy Towns!!! |

I know where you are coming from. But I think they actually found it difficult to sell the tickets. €200 for a ticket is a little steep, so they probably had to resource to committees and groups to sell the tickets. After all, the money raised from this draw will go to develop a children’s playground. So the more tickets that were sold the more money will be raised for this playground! Hopefully!!

At 200 euro a ticket it would have been nice to see the prize go to a young couple or family. Wasn't that the whole idea. |

Why shouldn't Durrow Tidy Towns not have entered the draw???? A least the money will be made of good use and hopefully be put back in to the town!!

Durrow tidy towns won the 20,000 euro prize draw in Durrow Castle. Does anyone else agree that they shouldn't have been allowed enter?
